Ezviz is a company that is well known for manufacturing home security cameras. But like many other camera manufacturers, Ezviz has decided to join the action camera market as well. Now the action camera market is most definitely oversaturated. There are new cameras being released basically ever day. Ezviz has however decided to do something different than it’s competitors. Instead of coming out with a cheap budget gadget, they are instead releasing 2 action cameras that are made to compete with the GoPro Hero4.
Those action cameras are called Ezviz Five and Five+. Design? Basically the exact same as the GoPro. They will have a dimension of 45x58x23mm / 1.8×2.3×0.9″ and they will both weigh 71g / 2.5oz. So a little bit smaller and lighter than the GoPro Hero4’s. Both of the Ezviz action cameras will also have Progressive Scan Sony CMOS sensor, 3mm f2.8 lens and a 158° angle of view. They will also have WiFi, Bluetooth, a 2″ touchscreen, microUSB 3.0 and microHDMI ports. They will also be still using a microSD card but they have increased the support up to 128GB (most action cameras, including GoPro, have the max of 64GB). Also I’d like to add that despite the Five and Five+ having the same size touchscreen, they still have different resolutions: Five has 320x240px and Five+ has 480x320px.
The real difference between the 2 cameras is in the chipset and processor. Which also creates the difference in video quality and the maximum resolutions and frame sets the cameras can shoot with.
As you can probably already guess, the Ezviz Five+ was made to compete with the GoPro Hero4 Black. According to Ezviz, it is supposed to cost $400. It will have a Ambarella A9 chipset and processor. We have been told that the GoPro Hero4 Black should have the very same chipset and processor. It is capable of shooting 4K videos at 30fps. But Ezviz has also taken it further. They have added an electronic image stabilization system, dual mics and have also improved the battery life (90 minutes of continuous 4K video). So it sounds like the Ezviz Five+ is a pretty damn amazing action camera.
During rush hours, access turnstiles equipped with Hikvision’s face recognition terminals can respond in less than a half-second, passing up to 40 persons per minute.
The Ezviz Five on the other hand has been made to compete with the GoPro Hero4 Silver. The Five version is supposed to cost $300. It has an Ambarella A12 chipset and processor. Technically the Five can shoot in 4K as well but it can do that at just 15fps so it isn’t that useful. The Five also has a smaller battery compared to the Five+ so battery lifetime will definitely be less.
Ezviz is supposedly going to release both of the action cameras in the following weeks. They will both be available in a range of different colors. Such as black and gold for Five+, and gunmetal grey, blue, gold and red for Five. Ezviz will also be offering various mounts and accessories for the action cameras. Hopefully that will include GoPro adapters so we can attach them to any existing GoPro mounts.
Either way it is great to see a company coming out with action cameras that aren’t just for the budget camera market. It will be interesting to see how well they will compete with the GoPro Hero4 and Sony FDR-X1000V cameras. You can check out more about Ezviz here: http://www.ezvizlife.com/
